  「細胞方舟任務 Cell Ark Mission」旨在藉由基因編輯技術,將多種必需營養素的代謝途徑基因儲存在細胞的染色體中,為人類在氣候變遷、物種滅絕、核戰衝突、糧食或藥品短缺等極端情況下提供全新的生存方案,並有望成為太空探索與地面環境中可持續取得營養的創新方式。本團隊透過合成生物學平台「畢卡索 PGASO」細胞編輯技術,將益生菌與酵母細胞視為可精準設計的微型工廠。前期研究已成功製備出能嵌入細胞膜的抗輻射逆境成分,用以保護細胞免受宇宙射線的自由基侵害,初步數據顯示細胞能在紫外線、放射線與有毒物質等逆境下維持穩定性。概念產品Asta-Sense於Runspace 2025 實作組競賽獲得金牌,透過基因改造微生物的顏色變化(蝦紅素/藻藍素)來感測太空輻射,藉由生物偵測的高韌性避免電子感測器在失效時帶來太空任務的輻射風險。未來團隊將進一步邀請各界專家共同開發整合太空生物實驗設備,目標應用於國際太空站(ISS)或立方衛星以進行藥物開發與lab-on-chip研究,整合光譜儀、器官晶片仿生反應器、自動化培養量測與生物資通訊,並以堆疊式微流體設計同時執行多組實驗以提升效率並降低成本。團隊預計於2027年完成原型,更可延伸至太空製造與人類健康研究,為人類在追求太空探索與永續資源的時代開創全新可能。
  Cell Ark Mission is a synthetic-biology approach to enhance cellular resilience and on-site biosynthesis for extreme environments. Using the PGASO platform, probiotic yeast was engineered as the modular micro-factories by integrating nutrient-metabolism pathway genes at multiple chromosomal loci to enable endogenous production of essential metabolites. Subsequently, a membrane-embedded radioprotective element was developed to mitigate reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated damage. Preliminary in-vitro data indicates cellular function was conserved upon UV, ionizing-radiation, and toxicant exposures. As a proof-of-concept sensor, Asta-Sense which is a genetically modified microorganisms that reports radiation exposure via measurable pigment shifts (astaxanthin/phycocyanin), offers a biological indicator when electronic sensors degrade. Incorporations were established to adapt these systems for spaceborne experimentation, integrating spectrometers, organ-chip bioreactors, automated cultivation/measurement modules, multilayer microfluidics, and secure bio-data telemetry for ISS and CubeSat platforms. A prototype is targeted for 2027. Beyond sensing and on-orbit research, this platform aims to enable cost-efficient drug discovery, lab-on-chip assays, and long-duration biomanufacturing, with potential applications for terrestrial resilience to supply disruptions and environmental extremes.
