Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has emerged as a cornerstone of modern remote sensing, with its high-resolution image capabilities independent of weather or lighting conditions. However, it also presents a unique set of engineering challenges due to their high precision requirements, complex signal processing needs, and strict resource constraints. The presentation covers from defining performance requirements and balancing trade-offs, emphasis is placed on how top-level mission objectives drive architectural decisions, orbit selection, and subsystem specifications. Additionally, the talk explores the mission planning aspects of SAR systems, including orbit optimization, data acquisition scheduling, calibration strategies, and downlink planning.
